About us

A humanitarian society, through yoga.

Persatuan Yoga Malaysia, the Malaysian Yoga Society (MYS), was founded by Master Manisekaran in November 2004 to bring yoga to all, especially the underprivileged.

Founded by Master Manisekaran, Persatuan Yoga Malaysia or The Malaysian Yoga Society (MYS) was formally established as a mental and physical health oriented humanitarian organization in November 2004.

Non-sectarian in nature, the Malaysian Yoga Society is purely in pursuit of creating awareness and understanding of yoga as a science of holistic selfdevelopment for individuals in society. The Malaysian Yoga Society aims to do this through teaching and practice, and various other related charitable activities.

Our vision

Malaysian Yoga Society follows strictly the path of karma yoga which promotes the experience of living in harmony through one’s own daily activities and selfless service.

MYS works towards uplifting the life of others, especially the socially disadvantaged and underprivileged, through the teaching of yoga.

Our mission

What we set out to do.

  • Promote wellness of the underprivileged and the socially disadvantaged.
  • Organise charitable activities related to teaching yoga to the underprivileged and the socially disadvantaged.
  • Provide a shelter home for the underprivileged and the socially disadvantaged: the Yoga Home.
  • Nurture a dynamic, growing force of volunteer yoga teachers who share yoga as a tool for life.
  • Organise fund-raising activities for yoga-related social welfare projects.
  • Network with committed yoga practitioners nationally and internationally to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged.
  • Conduct free yoga camps, especially for the socially disadvantaged.
How we work today

Volunteers, schools and you.

Graduates of the MAYI International Yoga Instructor Course (IYIC) are encouraged to teach voluntarily at non-profit and non-governmental organisations, and NGOs can send representatives for free foundation-level IYIC training through our Learn to Teach programme.

Weekly yoga classes for school children, as part of their co-curriculum, and holiday yoga camps are run by volunteer teachers at schools in the Klang Valley.

MYS volunteers have also brought yoga to local prisons, children’s homes and communities in need.

We always welcome volunteers to help with fund-raising and at the Yoga Home in Batu Arang, and sponsorship or donations of any kind. All are welcome.
