Many remarkable changes have been noticed in children who were astray and were brought back to track and now have secured better futures. Improvements in academics, behaviour and thinking skills were some of the feedback given by parents and teachers of children participating in our transforming programmes.
After the success of the Yoga Clinic and the National Yoga Camp in 2017, MYS took the next step: My Yoga Sadhana Journey (MYSJ), a mini camp of one to two days held in schools of all types. As a sequel to each camp, we look to place certified instructors in the school to carry on weekly classes with a standard syllabus.
The camps introduce yoga as a science that brings out the fullest potential of children: activities to sharpen the five senses; stories that link good behaviour to the values of yama and niyama; hatha yoga in single, partner and group variations; pranayama, dharana and dhyana to improve memory, break fear and bring peace; and practical sessions on managing emotions, time and food.
The first camps were held at Anbu Illam Boys Home in Ulu Kelang and Karunai Illam Girls Home in Kepong in February 2018, followed by SJKT St. Joseph in Sentul, SM Seri Sepang and SJKT Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, SJKT Fletcher, Idea Academy (a school for refugee children), SJKT San Peng, SJKT Cheras, four schools in Labu and Batang Benar, SJKT Rinching, SMK Kinrara and Segi University.
“The recent My Yoga Sadhana Journey camp held at SJKT St. Joseph was the best yoga camp, I would say. The kids had lots of fun and they benefitted the most. It was also an eye opener for the parents. We see many changes in our kids’ behaviour.” — Pn. Latha, PIBG Chair, SJKT St. Joseph
“We do appreciate all your efforts, together with your big team, to make us and our children benefit through your teaching and guidance towards better health and thinking through yoga.” — Mr Udaya Kumar, Coordinator, SMK Seri Sepang
